Scenic Saturday – Franklin, Tasmania

WILLIAM WOOLLEY [1801-1863], one of my 3x great grandfathers. was buried on 1 April 1863 in this cemetery attached to the former St John’s Church of England in Franklin, looking down on the Huon River. It was recorded that William had succumbed to “General debility and break up of the Constitution”. William, his wife Melinda and their children arrived in Hobart in 1839 as Bounty immigrants.

The church was deconsecrated in 2014 and is under contract to be sold; one of 55 Tasmanian Anglican churches listed for sale.
